A particularly charming reverse
Lot 1881
UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 20 mm, 5.99 g, 1 h), 'Derived Gordian Group B'. NHCΛOIΛ[...]ИIΛCUIMIII Laureate and draped imperial head to right. Rev. H\NV IIVHVV Winged (?) female figure standing front, head to left, holding wreath in her right hand and transverse spear in her left. A lovely coin with a very charming reverse. Holed and with light scrapes, otherwise, very fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

Despite not being draped, this portrait bears resemblance to lots 1876-1877 above and is cataloged in Group B accordingly. The reverse figure is a particularly wild mixture of the wings (?), dress and wreath of Victory and the upright transverse spear of an emperor
